Themes, themes, themes

Did we all do dances of joy yesterday upon receiving the theme email? Yay, now we can finish shopping and planning!

Here's the email if you missed it. (I did. Mine never came. Anyone else have this problem?)

So where are we standing on each of the themes? Let's run them down.

Friday: Casino Royale
The glitz and glam of Monte Carlo comes to the Lido Deck. Dress to impress with your best international elegance and flair

Fun! Who at some point has not wanted to be a Bond girl? The themes are always 100% anything goes, but to me this says a bit more elegant that last year's dress to impress, which was billed as "girls' night out." Here's an image from the film:
On the other hand, a black sequined cocktail dress is more than I want to pack or wear in a tropical environment, so I probably won't be fully Monte Carlo ready. But I do plan to be classier than the girls' night out theme (i.e., dress that falls at mid-calf instead of mid-thigh). I'm predicting lots of black dresses, up-dos, and dark lipstick. I'm also crossing my fingers it means tuxes for the guys, tropical climate or not.

If the schedule is the same, this should be open bar night. Vodka martini anyone? Shaken, not stirred, of course.

Saturday: Pajama party
Pillow fight anyone?

No description needed. I'm curious to find out if girls will go as extreme with their PJs this year, or if all the photos making the rounds will scare them off. Know this girls: it was effective. Bra + no pants usually got you on stage.

After a full day on the beach, it will be fantastic to slip into PJs. I was really hoping this theme would repeat, so I'm pumped.

Sunday: White night
Better make this one white hot!

Some have asked how dressy white night it. Like all the theme parties, it's anything you want. There were girls in dresses they could have worn as brides, and then other girls were in white denim skirts and tank tops. It all looked good. The really cool part is looking out into a sea of white. You can be as fancy as you want.
Last year I had a heck of a time finding a white dress, but I'm slightly optimistic it will be better this year. Yesterday I was at a huge BCBG store in New York, where a whole wing of one floor was dedicated to white. The saleswoman said white is the big color this year. Lots of options!

Can't wait to hear your thoughts. How dressed to the nines are you getting for Casino Royale? Have you been lucky enough to score a white dress already? What are you most hoping to see at PJ night? Did you, like me, somehow not get the theme email? Please leave comments!

  1. Like last year, I will be participating in the theme nights. Like you, nothing heavy or too over the top for Casino Royale night. For the PJ night I will be wearing my standard sleeping attire, yoga pants and a tank top. No lingerie for me, I will save that for the privacy of my bedroom with my husband. For White Hot night, I have a cute white halter dress. I just need some comfortable shoes to go with it. Comfort is a priority when your going to be on your feet for hours on end.

  2. I am very excited about the themes!! I will be shopping this weekend. I have it in my head what I want to wear for White Night and the PJ Party, but sometimes it's tricky to actually find what outfit you have in your head! As far as Casino Royale night, this is going to be tricky. For me anyway. Good Luck shoppers!

  3. I'm very excited!! Basically, things are the same as last year, just re-last named ;)
For Casino Royale night, I was planning on a black (of course) cocktail-y like dress...and was going to look for opera gloves, but can't seem to find any. So sparkly jewelry will have to do! PJ Night will be VS pjs....but they will be PAJAMAS, not lingerie! White night will probably just be a white sundress I had bought for last year, but never wore.
I'm glad the themes worked with things I already owned (but the perfectionist in me is still looking for something bigger and better!)

Can't wait to see you again, KT!

  4. I plan on participating, but maybe not all out...trying to be a little realistic in this. Any dress that I found that I might like for Casino Royale I thought would be too hot for the climate, so I've decided black dress capri's, and a black tank with a fair amount of bling and purple kitten heels. I'll be comfortable yet, I think it'll be dressy enough. PJ night is sleep capri's and a tank. White night is a white tank, but I'm wearing jean capri's and silver shoes. I don't wear white on the bottom, and as much as I'd like to justify the money for wearing white bottoms of some sort, it's just not realistic and would end up being a waste of money for me. I'm excited! This is my first cruise ever, my first chance to stand next to any NK. But I'm also excited for a vacation! and sun and water! yeah!

  5. I am excited for the themes! This is my first cruise so it's all new to me! I'm excited to get all dressed up the first night, I already have my white dress and anytime I can wear my pajamas (not the bra and underwear style...sorry) to a party I'm a happy camper (or cruiser in this case). I just can't wait to get on that boat! It's going to be so much fun!

    Thank you, Katie!

PS I didn't get my email either! :(

  6. I'm going to be 6 months pregnant....NOTHING will look cute! But I was determined to go again this year ...prego or not! My sis and I are seriously thinking about wearing red on white night ... how could we go unnoticed by the boys!?!?!

  7. I was thinking about using my clothes from last year. But the girl in me wants to shop. It was fun & interesting to see what people wore last year. Should make for a good time again. Best advice for the dress up night, if you want to wear heels be prepared to take them off. Standing for many hours on a wooden deck starts to hurt. Bring flip flops. No one will care. So exciting that 3 weeks from tomorrow I will be in Miami!

Btw my email should up on my BB 2 hrs after they sent it. I thought I didn't get it either until I went home and saw it on the computer. #3G Fail :(

  8. The emails may have gone to your roommate- depending on who the primary person was when getting the room.

I'm excited about finally having themes. ;) I may go try to find some saints pants and represent the Who Dat nation ;) I was looking for some last year, but found some LSU pj pants so that's what I got! As far as casino royale night! I may see if I can raid my cousins closet for her Mardi Gras ball dresses. If not, I may go to a conseignment shop. It's really for one night. I don't want to spend 2 much...

  9. Last year I wore pretty shoes for the first couple hours of every deck party and then went back to my room to change into flip flops. I brought about 4 pairs! My reg summer ones and then a bunch of the $5 Old Navy ones in coordinating colors :-)

  10. I agree with SGT Hottie- same themes, just re-last named :)

May be faux pas, but I am wearing my white dress from last year's cruise on this year's. I'm not sure that I want to participate in the Casino Royale theme, but I will probably succumb to peer pressure at the last minute. I don't really want to have to go shopping. I bought way too many things last year that I ended up either A) not wearing again or B) taking for a ride in the suitcase and then returning to the store.

I am intent on taking a carryon luggage so that I don't have to wait to find my bag once we disembark. But that's just me.

  11. I had a horrific case of sun poisoning our last day on the ship and wasn't able to participate in White Night. I'm so glad to see it back, as I really liked the dress I bought!

P.S. I got my email a few hours after many of my friends.

  12. Elizabeth - I bought a ton of those Old Navy flip flops too. :)

I'm trying to cut back on the amount of clothes I bring with me. I brought way too much last year.

  13. Well unfortunately I will be having a baby sometime around the time you all are cruising lol (due the 13th) so I won't be there, but had I not had to cancel I would have worn the exact same attire from last year lol. Would've been nice to save the money, and really, who's gonna notice?

  14. This will be my 1st time cruise with NKOTB & I'll def participate all the themes! :)

I'm pretty much set with all the outfits because I won't make any special arrangements.

For Casino Royale night, I'll just pick one dress from my wardrobe. It's not a brand new up to date outfit but it's one with a long-lasting model that I can wear it to any party in any year.

PJ night, I bought one cute Disney PJ last year in Walmart so I think I'm just gonna wear that one! LOL

I was lucky enough to get a dress for White Night theme when I went to Singapore last January :)

I might need to get a pair of shoes & some purses/handbags later when I get to NYC or Miami but I'll see...

Otherwise, let's go to the party! See ya...

  15. I'm re-wearing my white dress from last year too. I really love it but it's too pretty for much but a summer wedding and since it's WHITE that won't work either! LOL So an actual White Party is pretty much the only place to wear it. I'll be getting my moneys worth out of my $27 Forever 21 dress :-)

  16. Who's the dork that posts on her own blog? This one.

I'm with Elizabeth; I found nowhere else to wear my white dress, and although I love it, it has sat untouched in my closet for a year. In general I prefer dresses, but this year I'm going to try to be practical and buy a separate white top and bottom so I can wear them individually later on.

  18. As usual, I look to you as the most dependable source for all things cruise. I didn't get my email and I haven't been on Twitter much either, so since I plan to shop today, I stopped here first. Thank you, KT. :)

  19. To the pregnant cruiser (CONGRATS!): You probably already checked everything out, and are all set, but just wanted to make sure you knew :) Carnival won't allow you to cruise if you are more then 24 weeks pregnant and requires a particular form from their website to be filled out by a physician for any pregnant cruisers.

    From: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Minor_Guests_and_Pregnancy_Policy.aspx

"Carnival's policy regarding guests who are pregnant:

While at sea or in port, the availability of medical care may be limited or delayed. Prenatal and early infant care in particular may require specialized diagnostic facilities and/or treatment that are not obtainable during the cruise on board the ship or ashore in ports of call. Pregnant women are only allowed to sail if pregnant for 24 complete weeks or less at time of cruise disembarkation. All pregnant women are required to produce a physician's letter stating that mother and baby are in good health, fit to travel and the pregnancy is not high-risk. The letter must also include the estimated date of Delivery (EDD).

Because the safety of the pregnant mother and unborn child is our number one concern, Carnival will not accept any agreement or recommendation from the Guest and/or her physician that the policy be waived."
