What are your plans for May 13?

Yay for the announcement of the Fillmore show!

If you missed it:
The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater
Miami Beach, FL
Thu, May 13, 2010 08:00 PM

ILAA 5 star is $395. 4 star is $195. American Express Preferred Seating cardmembers only presale starts this Friday at 10:00 a.m. Strangely, I can't find anything that says when the ILAA general sale is.

As for regular tickets, everything is GA. Tickets are $81 with the Amex presale Friday at 10 a.m. and general sale Friday 4/16 at 10:00 a.m.

I've never been to anything GA that has regular rows and seats other than the movies. The venue seems to do this kind of set up regularly, and presumably there is some benefit to them in doing it, although I can't figure out what it is. No matter, I'll be happy with whatever seat I end up with, and since my fight doesn't get in till late Thursday afternoon, I couldn't wait in line if I wanted to.

In related news, Jared posted on Ning this morning in a thread that has since been deleted that there will not be a Danny party this year.

I'm curious what other cruisers are planning to do on May 13. Are you attending the show? Skipping it to have an early night? Skipping it to have your own party? Post in the comments and please vote in the poll!

Update: So far, it looks like about half the cruisers are planning to skip this show. From the comments and Twitter replies, the reasons seem to be:
  • Already had plans for that night
  • Already have tickets for one or more spring shows
  • Already maxed out cruise budget
  • Don't want to spend time in line for GA
  • Lack of tiered pricing (i.e., same price whether you climb into the pit or sit in the back row of the balcony)
All certainly valid reasons. I'm just surprised the split is so even. My feeling is: I know I would not be happy doing anything else while there was a NKOTB concert happening only a few miles away, so I won't miss it. On the plus side, this leaves lots of room for local non-cruisers, who presumably don't read this blog and aren't voting in the poll. Do you know locals or Southerners who are planning to attend?

  1. I am not attending the show at Fillmore and will be chilling with friends/making our own party. Can't wait!!

Have fun everyone else who decides to go! :)

  2. I once attended a GA show in a venue that used to be a movie theater. Didn't realize til I got there that there were going to be seats. It was nice to have a place to sit instead of standing for hours and hours.

I'm looking forward to there being some seats at this venue....that minimizes SOME of the pushing and shoving as the seats don't exactly move! ;)

  3. I am cruising, but will not be attending the concert. There are plenty of people who have had concert cancelled who should be at that concert. I have three days with them on the cruise and also all three Hammond shows.

Also, $81 for general admission is kind of crazy. I know you are guaranteed a seat if you buy a ticket, but I can't justify spending that kind of money to be sitting all the way in the back of the theatre.

  4. I'm very torn. Last year, I opted to hang with friends back at the hotel and I was so happy that I went that route. As we all know, there is very little sleep on the boat, so it was beneficial to board rested.

This year, with it being just a regular concert, it shouldn't be a really long night (vs. last year's party where some girls got in at 5am). I think the GA thing is what is throwing me off. I wish I knew their reasoning. Why can't we just have assigned seats? My friend is also in a wheelchair and I'm curious of how they handle seating when it comes to that. I will be calling the venue for that information.

As I said, I'm so torn! How can I NOT be at a NKOTB concert when I'm in the same city? That's really what it comes down too, so yeah, I'll probably end up going! haha

  5. I will be taking the day to rest, kick back, maybe meets some fellow BH's in the hotel bar. I too am attending the Hammond shows (only 2 of them though) and may choose to attend more at a later date. I think it's only fair to give those who are closer to Miami the chance to see them. As Jodi said, 3 days on the boat with them and two concerts is surely my fair share of them in a 3 week period, let's give some others a chance :)
Hope those that go to the concert have a fabulous time, regardless if your on the boat or not! Enjoy ladies!

  6. I feel for the ladies or men that got shows CA'd but Im not going to worry about it-sorry ppl. If the guys wanted to limit it to FL residents they could have. I'll be on the cruise & at the show. Last yr I didnt attend the Danny event and was upset sitting in my hotel room lol So if I get pre-sale great-if not I wont lose sleep. I'll do my sight seeing and then do the concert at night. I know excately where we want to go during the day so the night is free!
Good luck to everyone! It's be a great few days!!

  7. Although I will be staying only a few blocks away from the theatre I think my friends and I will pass on the concert as well. It seems you have to be in line for hours ahead of time in order to get a decent seat and that is not how I want to start my vacation. We're going to take it easy and enjoy some of the South Beach nightlife !

  8. I won't be attending the concert, though I live in South FL. I'm going on the cruise and, as it turns out, I have to work late on Thursday night. It's OK. I figure the cruise and a RCMH concert is plenty for me!

  9. if i can get tickets il be there. lil bit gutted that theres no danny party this year had such a good time last year.

  10. Not attending the concert, will be chilling in South Beach ! the cruise plus 1 RCMH concert is plenty for me. I personnaly think they overkilling it with that show, a fundraiser party like last year was best. Hope that most of the people who end up getting tics are people who cant't be on the boat.

  11. Hello from Miami,
Doing Vegas and Cruise. I'm a bit torn about going only cuz of $$ which compared to the other events I'm doing in the 1 week period it is
    minimal, then again its $$.
The only thing that makes me REALLY want to go is the chance for the concert to be as fun as the Hammersmith Apollo show.
I have been at the Fillmore to watch Cats, the musical. The venue is small, but seating will be available for those who attend.
The venue is also walking distance from many bars, clubs, and hotel lounges in case you want to continue club/bar hop or change your mind and want to go to the show.
Telling all my friends, even the ones that didn't know NKOTB had returned! :)

  12. When I first heard that it was GA I was totally against it, but have since changed my mind. I'm now looking forward to the concert. Especially since I won't be able to attend any of there other scheduled shows. The cruise show is just a mini concert compared to a regular concert so this may (or may not) be the only NKOTB concert I get to attend this year (hopefully not).

  13. I am cruising but not attending the show. I just want to land in Miami and spend the rest of the day lounging on the beach relaxing. After all, I will be seeing the guys the next day on the boat and I have a few of the other concerts lined up later in June.

  14. Like many others I am a bit torn on the Miami show. I am going on the cruise with @mysticfearie and we just cannot decide what to do. The money is always an issue, but it will basically take up our whole time in Miami to just stand in line. I really think we are going to end up passing on the show, have a nice dinner and see the sites. Then be all fresh for 4 days of bliss with NKOTB. Can't wait to meet all of you :) NKOTB love to all.

  15. My friends and I (at least 5 cruisers) will not be going to the concert on May 13th. Our flight is into Ft. Lauderdale, and we won't get into Miami until 7 if we're lucky. Also, money is an issue. The cruise itself is paid (although some is still waiting to be paid off on my credit card), we need $$ for on board the cruise too. We plan on hitting the hotel bar to meet up with whatever other girls are there & just have a relaxing evening and a few drinks. I live in Las Vegas, and Ilm attending the concert on the 8th of May too. See you all on the boat!

  16. I am planning on attending the show. I will be on the cruise as well. I have a golden ticket so I would be crazy to pass it up. Can't wait to meet all of you in Miami!

  17. I come from abroad to join NKOTB cruise & attend both shows in Foxwoods 21-22 May with 5* M&G on the second show.

I plan to attend Fillmore 5/13 show as well although I may only get myself a GA tix or 4* coz it seems the price is not far different (I'm sure GA tix will end up $100+ anyway).

Cruise, 5* Foxwoods 5/22, flights (both domestic & international), & hotels are nearly killing my pocket already so I really doubt that I'd get 5* for Fillmore!

    See you in Miami...

  18. I am cruising and going to the show. Is that unfair? maybe-but I live in the south, and well they aren't coming down here, and the only chance I have at concert, so I'm going to hang out with my Florida girls and enjoy the concert, and the time with them, who i wouldn't have seen w/o the concert. Of course, I am not doing vip, that would be totally unnecessary, since I am going on the cruise!
(lets remember Florida didn't get FULL SERVICE)

  19. I definitively don´t wanna miss out on the show!!! If there is a show while I´m in the same town, I so will be there!! :) I really don´t understand the GA thing, but as there will be seats available, I guess I´ll be okay (I HATE standing around for hours)!
Can´t wait!!! So ready for Miami, the show and the cruise!!! xoxo

  20. I'm not going to the concert, but only because I have never been to Miami, and want to use Thursday to do some sightseeing and enjoying Miami. Besides, I'll have 3 days of waiting in line and seeing the guys.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Flying in from Denmark and even though I also will be at the 2 Foxwood concerts and all 3 in NYC, I couldn't imagine being so close to a NKOTB concert and not going. Probably also something to do with the fact I live overseas and seeing the guys so rarely makes me wanna grap any chance I get!! Was originaly only going on the cruise and to the first RMCH one..but the guys keep adding concerts!! LOL

General admission seems to be more normal here in Europe then in the US, almost all concerts here are general admission..at least in the floor part and mostly it works fine. When its such a small venue there is no such thing as a bad view. I have been to 3 GA NKOTB concerts, Hammersmith, Frankfurt and Paris. In Hammersmith I had front row..and yes it was a bit crowded..but everyone took good care of each other, and when people and standing that close the energi is smoking hot and amazing...guess you all have seen the Hammersmith bit in the DVD! Only bad thing standing in the middle of the crowd is its hard to go to the bathroom.

I won't be standing in line either..rather spend the time on the beach, will be happy standing in the back or have a balcony seat. No matter what I'm sure this will be a very special concert and I love the guys want to kick of the cruise that way!

See you there or on the boat!

  22. I'm cruising but I will not be attending the concert because I'm arriving on Friday morning.

  23. ILAA presale ends Mon. 4/12 6:00pm EDT.... this would also be the time the general ilaa on sale is scheduled to start (this is how it's worked for other shows).

  24. Seriously? Half of your responses say they won't attend the Miami Beach show?! That's crazy! I'm going because I just don't feel good about that cruise concert on the Lido Deck. I think it's going to be a disaster. :( It was way too crowded up there as it was for deck parties last year. What's it going to be like for the "concert?" Nope. I'll take advantage of the Miami Beach show! :)

  25. what number is the waitlist by ?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't want to waste my time in Miami. I can go there anytime to sightsee. I am going to try for presale and I am going on the cruise. GA is not that big of a deal. Most people stand at concerts anyways. I actually forget how crowded it is once the guys get on stage. The Boston HOB show went just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  27. There is a group of about 25 of us cruising together and we are split down the middle, half of us are going to do the show and half aren't. The main reason for the people that decided not to go is the cost.

I was a little apprehensive about GA when I first heard it. We don't plan to spend any time in line, we actually have group dinner reservations at 4pm. But we did the HOB show and the Borgata GA shows and were front row for both. There wasn't a lot of pushing or anything like that, people were respectful. I was a little confused when they said there were seats but it was still all GA. We called and talked to the Filmore and they seem pretty good about the whole thing. They said the pitt holds about 700 people and that is restricted to the maximum number, but above and beyond that the rest of the main level and the mezz level have seats and it is just like a movie theater, get in where you fit in. They also said you couldn't stand in the walkways or anything, but that its not "every butt must be in a seat", if you can fit an extra person in your row then do that. It sounds like they plan to have a good balance going between being organized and being flexible. We had a lot of questions about the GA nature and how entrance would work with ILAA/VIP/Reg tickets and they answered all of our questions. I'm hopeful that we didn't waste our money on tickets, I've never been to a NKOTB show I didn't enjoy :)

  28. Really want to do VIP, but think $395 is insane for GA seats, photo or not. I keep going back and forth. Still undecided.

My fans and I are not fans of the GA situation for New Kids in general as we don't like spending all day to wait in line or being forced to go in the back, so we're still deciding whether to go or just go out to dinner and get excited for the cruise the next day. If there were seats for sale in the balcony we probably would have bought those just to be sure we could arrive after a nice dinner and not have to sit in the back, but since there aren't, we are still deciding.

  29. 95% sure I won't be attending the concert. I have mad love for NKOTB just as much as the next person. Been to many shows, going to 3 of the casiNO tour, last cruise & this cruise. Just can't see myself spending another $100 for this show. Yes, the Block has done tons for us, just like we have all fully supported them the 1st time & the return. It would have been outright amazing if NKOTB would have surprised us with a free show. EEEKKK. YES I said it!! Sorry, if you all think I'm crazy BUT.... 85% of us are flying from god knows where to Miami. YES, I know we are getting our $'s worth on the cruise. BUT just once.. How about a little extra something something.. Just throwing it out there. And yes, there's still that 5% of me that wants to make a preale purchase. So who knows....

    ReplyDelete
  30. Not trying to start anything but the previous poster implies the guys have never done anything extra... "just once.. How about a little extra something something.. "

I'm amazed when I hear things like this. In my eyes they go above and beyond so often.

  31. I am not a cruiser...I am thankful that so many of you are not going to the concert! I am floridian and was heading down to Miami just in case Danny would have a party. Even more excited that there is a concert. I don't care about GA, NKOTB is there and that is all that matters! Had they given us a little more time I would of done 5*

    ReplyDelete
  32. I was also torn about this show. I will be down there early and had planned to do whatever they scheduled for Thursday night. However, I don't want to wait in line all day or pay $100 and not know where I will wind up. But, if this was to benefit Komen or even billed as the birthday celebrations/parties, then I would have probably done it. I probably would have done it too if were assigned seats and not GA.

On the other hand, I also need to draw the line somewhere. I've spent thousands of dollars since they've come back as I do feel obligated (self-imposed) to do every event I could make. I've done about 10 shows since 2008 (with a few 5* mixed in), the '09 cruise, and am doing the cruise again and 1 RCMH show. I've never spent anywhere close to this kind of money on another group/artist. I've loved every minute of it though! But seriously, when is enough enough? I loved the guys BITD and even more now, but this Miami concert made me realize that I can't do it all and that's OK.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with "Anonymous", think she's just saying what ALOT of us think. I KNOW they do alot for us..BUT..it's also their job. They are a music group-they are suppose to have a CD, suppose to have concerts, etc. $100 is alot..especially since we paid alot more then what the average cruise would have been & the many many other things. Even maybe a little discount would have been nice if your were a cruiser...
Im on my own here--no husband or anyone to help. I know I make my one choices but Im going to have to stop after the cruise. I have to figure if I can even pull off this ticket :(
But I will have a great time enjoying the sun (since where I live it's going to snow Sat) and meeting a bunch of awesome ppl!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well our Undecided changed to Going! Our group decided to grab 4* tix since the GA tix were already over $100.00. Then we don't have to worry about seats and can just arrive and enjoy the show!

    ReplyDelete
  35. My friend & I just grabbed 4* tix from AMEX pre-sale today! We were happy to be able to get it without any problem coz apparently it's sold out within minutes (both 5* & 4* tix!).

Def see you at NKOTB Fillmore Miami show 5/13! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Doing 5* and cruising. The way I see it, the money for the 5* would have been the money spent on a (regular) VIP table AND gratuity (which was a lot!) at Danny's party. I'm doing several other shows during this tour but then again...who knows what will happen after RCMH. If I can afford it and not go into debt, I'm going to enjoy it as much as I can.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The show will be a very interesting

    ReplyDelete
  38. As you say, I couldnt imagine myself being elsewhere when they are so close so I definitely have tickets. Also, ive never had the VIP opportunity and with there not much view of a UK tour on the cards (but still hopeful) I went for 5* - I know ill never look back from that decision! There are 8 of us in total all hoping to attend as long as we can get 6 GA tickets on Friday. Its gonna be a fantastic start to the NKOTB experience!!! :o)

  39. got my concert ticket yesterday with the livenation presale. :) So weird how they had a amex presale, then a regular credit card presale, and then the regular public sale tomorrow.

FYI, the presale ends tonight on livenation. use the code POPSTAR.
