The question I am asked most frequently is "When did you find out the themes last year?" I can now tell you with certainty that we found out at 3:37 p.m. Eastern time, Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Or, to put it another way, 36 days in advance.
I'm attaching the email here so first-time cruisers can see exactly what was included. It came from Jeannie Gearhart with the subject line "NKOTB Cruise New Letter / Information." Click to open it larger.
As much as I would like to know about the themes and door decorating this very minute, I have resigned myself to not finding out any earlier than we did last year, and that's okay. However, that doesn't mean I am able to control my compulsive planning, so I've started on a few things.
- I've nearly finished shopping for everything BUT themes.
- Malina and I have come up with a concept for our door design. We have it pretty mapped out in our minds. I may not be able to help myself from starting to lay it out between now and when we actually find out if it's happening, but I'm trying.
- I've decided in my own head that there will be a generic dress to impress night and I've started looking for dresses. This is based on nothing whatsoever other than I think it makes sense to have a generic dress to impress night.
- Even crazier than that, so great is my hope for an 80s night, I have decided exactly what I would want to wear to that and have started buying things. The other day I saw slouch socks in the store - what are the odds?? - so I had to get those. I am at least saving receipts because I know very well that nothing I guess in relation to NKOTB has ever once been right, which puts the odds of there actually being an 80s night somewhere around 0.4%. But if there is I will be prepared! (And if there isn't, you may see me wearing my slouch socks and jelly bracelets around the pool because they are just that cool.)
In actual news, 16 days till final payment is due!
As much as i wish they would tell us the themes, it does make sense to wait until after the final payments have posted.
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie for doing so much for us BH's!
Oh my gosh Teresa, I never even thought of it that way. All I could think was "why the hell don't they tell us!?! ARGH!" But now that you say that, it does make sense. Thanks for helping me see the light!
ReplyDeleteIt is good to know that we need magnets to put our decorations on the door! Need to make a mental not to find some magnets....
ReplyDeleteDawn, the magnet thing is a lie! We brought all kinds of magnets and no tape. The magnets did not work at all. Luckily our neighbors let us borrow their tape.
ReplyDeleteGood to know! Tape is cheaper than hunting down magnets anyway! ;)
ReplyDeleteMY friends and I are also hoping for an 80s night and decided if they don't do an 80s night...we will be wearing our stuff on the dress to impress night!
ReplyDeletePlease no 80's night.
ReplyDelete^ ^
ReplyDeleteI agree. Please no 80s Night!
At least we know to wait for themes this year. I seem to remember that this newsletter was our first mention of themes at all last year. I know some people had already bought dresses for every night and had to scramble to return them and buy white dresses and PJs.
ReplyDeleteoh i third that no 80's night! do not want to dress 80's at all! I would like a luau that might be fun.. an please no pj night!
ReplyDeletePeople will be decorating their doors regardless of a contest or not. That was the plan last year as well. NKOTB and Rose Tours just made it into a contest. And there was no real theme to last years contest. We were told to remember when...and some people ran with that as a theme.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'd like to add my vote to those who say Please no 80's night!
Why wait for an announcement about door decorations? Decorating your door is a common practice on any cruise.
ReplyDeleteI'll do the 70's, 60's, 20's even the future!!
But I have no interest in doing the 80's.
No 80's night and no jammie night, please :)
ReplyDeleteMy door is almost done. I was going to scale it down from last yr but ended up going 2x bigger! Im using the wall next to the door also. Im also shipping my door decorations to the hotel in advance. Everything will be on the posterboard and ready to go up once on the cruise. Ill bring extra glue in case something falls off but I dont want to be working on it Thursday night at the hotel like last yr. Ive also got 2 rolls of extra wide (like 3 in wide) clear tape.
ReplyDeleteI just made my final payment for the cruise today & Michelle Rose Tours was very kind to assist me on this matter :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I asked her when the itinerary will be sent to us, she said that Rose Tours will receive it approx two weeks prior to sailing.
I told her it would be better if we get it earlier so we'll see...
See you all on the cruise! :)
Jared, you read this blog and hopefully the coments too. Please note that not everyone wants an eighties night! Let's save the costumes for Halloween! (sorry KT, love the blog but crimped hair and neon don't look good on most of us thirty-somethings)
